Bryce Reeves: Mark Warner Chooses Far-Left Extremists Over Virginia in Government Shutdown

“After nearly 20 years in Washington, it’s clear that Senator Warner has lost his way and can no longer be trusted to stand with the people of Virgina.”

Orange, VA – U.S. Army Ranger Bryce Reeves, Republican candidate for U.S. Senate, today condemned U.S. Senator Mark Warner for siding with far-left extremists in Washington to shut down the federal government, putting Virginia families and communities directly in harm’s way.

“After nearly 20 years in Washington, it’s clear that Senator Warner has lost his way and can no longer be trusted to stand with the people of Virginia,” said Bryce Reeves. “Mark Warner tells people at home that he’s a moderate, but across the Potomac he does the bidding of far-left extremists. He put Virginia’s federal workers, military families, and seniors on the chopping block to score points with radicals in Washington.”

Virginia is home to 144,483 federal employees which is the second-largest population in the nation. These men and women now face missed paychecks and financial uncertainty because Warner voted to shut down the federal government yesterday. The ripple effects will hit small businesses, seniors depending on federal services, and military families stationed across the Commonwealth.

Even Warner himself admitted that “shutdowns — even partial ones — are as devastating as they are stupid.”

By Warner’s own definition, his vote means:

  • Federal employees and servicemembers don’t get paid.
  • Critical vets’ and nutrition assistance benefits lapse.
  • Countless federal functions are derailed.

The shutdown was entirely avoidable. Republicans put forward a clean continuing resolution to keep federal agencies funded through November 21 while giving Congress more time to finalize full-year spending bills. The measure contained no funding cuts, no partisan policy riders, and no new policy fights. Even Democrat critics admitted it was “relatively clean.” Instead of supporting this commonsense plan, Mark Warner demanded over a trillion dollars in unrelated health care changes, and the result is the ongoing shutdown that hurts Virginia families.
