SENATOR REEVES VICTORIOUS IN TONIGHT’S SD28 CANDIDATE’S FORUM

April 27, 2023

Culpeper, Virginia – April 27, 2023 – Today, Senator Bryce Reeves participated in a forum-style debate with his opponent for the 28th Senatorial District nomination contest. The forum covered a wide variety of topics such as the Second Amendment, education, parental rights, agribusiness, and economic development. Reeves made a strong showing tonight, with clear and distinct answers both focused on what he has accomplished during his time in the legislature and what the future holds for the 28th district.

“I’m glad so many people were able to take the time to come out tonight,” said Reeves. “I believe that this was one of the strongest showings of support I have ever seen at an event like this. There’s a reason my opponent refuses to discuss policy and differentiate himself from my stances, and instead resorts to baseless attacks to gain support. Tonight was a prime example of this, and I am proud that the voters of the 28th district have refused to fall for my opponent’s divisive rhetoric, and instead are focusing on the results I continue to produce in Richmond.”

Reeves Passes Bill to Research Economic Feasibility of Taiwan Trade Office, Resulting in Executive Order to Fast-Track Office

RICHMOND, VA – April 25th, 2023 – Yesterday, April 24th, 2023 Governor Glenn Youngkin (R-VA) announced the signing of an executive order to fast-track a Virginia-Taiwan trade office. The order came after the Virginia Economic Development Partnership (VEDP) conducted a cost-benefit analysis of opening a trade office as directed by SB1208 (Reeves, 2023). The Senate bill, carried by Senator Bryce Reeves (R-Spotsylvania) launched the initiative, having massive implications for the Virginia economy.

The passage of Reeves’ bill through the House and Senate came shortly after representatives from the Taiwan Economic and Cultural Representative Office (TECRO), including Ambassador Hsiao Bi-khim, visited the Virginia General Assembly to meet with Youngkin, Reeves, and other Virginia elected officials. According to the executive order released by Youngkin, the Commonwealth only stands to benefit from this deepened relationship.

Official Photo from Governor Youngkin’s Twitter shows him signing the executive order amid his visit to Taipei.

“I’m proud to have been able to champion this legislation which spurred on the official creation of Virginia’s newest trade office. Not only does this show that Virginia is ready and willing to stand with Taiwan in support of their democracy, but that we are truly invested,” said Senator Reeves. “Taiwan has functioned as a technological powerhouse, with recent developments that have countless civilian and military applications. I look forward to working alongside Ambassador Hsiao Bi-khim to further relationships between our Commonwealth and the Taiwanese people!”

In response to SB1208’s passage in the Virginia House of Delegates in mid-February, Taiwanese Ambassador Hsiao Bi-khim said, “[I am] touched and thankful to learn of the bipartisan Virginia General Assembly House vote today, 99-0, supporting an analysis to open a trade office in Taiwan. I believe such an office will add momentum to deepening trade and economic ties.”

As of 2022 Taiwan stood as Virginia’s 9th largest trading partner overall, and 4th largest in the agriculture export market. According to the executive order released by the Governor’s office, “Taiwanese exports through the Port of Virginia saw a 12.5% year-over-year increase in twenty-foot equivalent [units] (TEUs) in 2022.” The executive order’s release in response to the results of SB1208‘s study has sparked major excitement for the future of Virginia and Taiwan’s relationship.

Governor Youngkin Signs SB836 Into Law, Tackles Gambling Addiction Alongside Reeves and Krizek

April 17, 2023

RICHMOND, VA – April 17th, 2023 – Today, Governor Glenn Youngkin (R-VA) and Senator Bryce Reeves (R-Spotsylvania) announced the signing of SB836, a bill that goes into effect July 1st of this year. SB836 will establish the Virginia Problem Gambling Treatment and Support Advisory Committee, with the goal of preventing gambling addiction and providing resources to individuals struggling with gambling addiction. Delegate Paul Krizek (D-Mount Vernon) carried and passed HB1465 in the House of Delegates, an identical piece of legislation.

Virginia has recently seen a rise in youth gambling rates, with the 2021 VA Youth Survey claiming that nearly ¼ of Virginia high-schoolers had gambled within the past year and that nearly ⅔ of young Virginians aged 18-25 had gambled within the past month.  Research shows that individuals who gamble in their teens are significantly more likely to develop a gambling problem later in life.

“I greatly appreciate Governor Youngkin’s support in this endeavor.”, said Reeves. “As a father, it pains me to see how our youth have been affected by gambling and all the ills that come with it. The Virginia Problem Gambling Hotline has seen a 143% increase in calls over the last few years, which I feel is deeply representative of this growing issue. I look forward to the committee’s establishment this July and the progress they will make in ensuring Virginians are given the knowledge, tools, and abilities to prevent and overcome gambling addiction.”

Bryce Reeves Announces Re-elect Bid in New 28th Senate District

November 15, 2022

Fredericksburg, VA – Last night, Virginia Senator Bryce Reeves (R-Spotsylvania) officially announced his reelection bid in the new 28th Senate District. Reeves, who has served as Senate District 17’s representative since 2012, was drawn into the new 28th district as the sole incumbent during the redistricting process that occurred this past year.

The sitting Senator kicked off his campaign alongside elected officials, friends, and constituents at the popular, locally owned Beer Hound Brewery of Culpeper, VA. Guest speakers included Delegate Nick Freitas (R-Culpeper), Sheriff Scott Jenkins (R-Culpeper), Supervisor Duane Adams (R-Louisa), and Supervisor Jim Jewett (R-Madison).

“I just want to thank everybody for the outpouring of support I have received”, said Reeves. “I’ve worked countless hours to improve the lives of our veterans, members of law enforcement, and Virginia families. I know the people of the 28th District, and I know just how important family values are to them. Whether it was securing the largest retirement pay tax cut in the history of Virginia for our veterans, fixing our broken foster care system, or standing up for our constitutional rights in Richmond, I have always worked with my constituents and those values in mind.”

“It seems like every day, new challenges are presented to Virginians. Parents have to fight just to have their voices heard, and we recently saw a massive decline in our students’ math and reading test scores. As a father and high-school football coach, I take these issues personally. For the sake of my constituents and all Virginians, I won’t back down to the liberal left and will continue the fight in Richmond to protect our families and our freedoms.”

Reeves, who is currently serving his third term as a Virginia Senator, has a well defined history of passing conservative legislation regardless of which party controls either chamber in Richmond. An avid voice in favor of the pro-life movement, parental rights, and the Virginia business community, Reeves brings the kind of experience and legislative effectiveness that is needed in Richmond.

Reeves Recalls Sounding the Alarm Early on Chinese Nationalists Stealing US Intellectual Property

October 24, 2022

FREDERICKSBURG, VA – Today, the USDOJ (US Department of Justice) held a live press conference outlining charges against over a dozen defendants in a variety of cases relating to the intimidation of US residents and theft of US-based intellectual property. According to FBI Director Christopher Wray, ten of the defendants are Chinese officials. Each of the cases relate in some way to alleged CCP (Chinese Communist Party) attempts to steal intellectual property from US-based tech and academic institutions.

There was also talk of a case of Chinese agents attempting to force a United States resident into returning to China. Attorney General Merrick Garland added that “The [People’s Republic of China] has a history of targeting political dissidents and critics of the government who have sought relief and refuge in other countries.” The various charges from the DOJ include attempts to steal confidential information from US-based tech companies, surveillance and harassment of a US resident in an attempt to intimidate them into returning to the PRC, obstruction, and attempting to target US citizens and coerce them into acting as Chinese agents.

Senator Reeves, who carried SB717 this year seeking to protect Virginia academic institutions from theft of intellectual property by Chinese foreign agents, had this to say:

“The threat posed by China to our academic institutions and our tech companies has never gone away. I attempted to secure public, Virginia-based universities from these sort of targeted attacks with SB717, which would have required university employees to disclose any payments from foreign governments as well as prohibiting them from taking Chinese government grants. Unfortunately, the bill was killed before it ever saw the light of day on the Senate floor in an unsurprising party-line vote. These charges brought up by the Department of Justice validate the need for oversight and caution when it comes to the participation of foreign nationals in our educational system. My legislation would have done just that. I plan on reintroducing the legislation this year in the hopes that the Senate Democrats will wake up to reality and stop playing the identity politics game.”

Reeves Announces NRA-PVF Endorsement in 28th Senatorial District Race

April 18, 2022

FREDERICKSBURG, VA – April 18th, 2022 – Today, the NRA-PVF announced its endorsement of Senator Bryce Reeves for the new 28th Senatorial District seat. Reeves has consistently received an NRA A+ rating in the past for his voting record and work at the state level to protect and uphold Virginians’ 2nd amendment rights.

“I’m honored to receive the endorsement of the NRA-PVF.”, said Reeves. “I have worked hand-in-hand with the NRA-PVF and other second amendment advocacy groups throughout my time in office to ensure that Virginians’ rights to self defense are upheld.  Our constitution’s language is clear and concise: ‘…shall not be infringed.’ Although some may disagree with me, legislation such as red flag laws are a clear example of an attack on our second amendment rights. They skip over due process entirely, making a mockery of our justice system with policy that can be weaponized against good, law-abiding Virginians. I will not stop until Virginia’s unconstitutional red flag laws are repealed.”

The NRA-PVF released a letter along with their endorsement and had this to say: “This endorsement is a reflection of your steadfast support and demonstrated leadership on Second Amendment issues during your tenure in the General Assembly. As a past recipient of our Defender of Freedom award, you have been a leader in the Virginia State Senate on legislation to defend and expand Second Amendment freedoms.

This most recent endorsement only serves to add to the swelling momentum of Reeves’ campaign. Reeves has received endorsements so far from statewide leaders such as Governor Glenn Youngkin (R-VA), Lieutenant Governor Winsome Sears (R-VA), Attorney General Jason Miyares (R-VA), and former Governor George Allen (R-VA). Virginia Congressman Bob Good (R-VA05) and Congresswoman Jen Kiggans (R-VA02) have also thrown their support behind Reeves. Other organizations and notable political figures that have endorsed Reeves include: The Virginia Police Benevolent Association, Americans for Prosperity, Sheriff Jeremy Falls (Fauquier), Sheriff Roger Harris (Spotsylvania), Sheriff Erik Weaver (Madison), Del. Nick Freitas (R-Culpeper) , Del. Mike Webert (R-Fauquier), Delegate Phil Scott (R-Spotsylvania), and State Senator Mark Obenshain (R-Harrisonburg).
